Belfast Sewer.
The Belfast Sewers Project is worth over £100m and by 2009, the project will give Belfast a modern, effective sewerage system.
Mullingar Sewer Improvement Scheme
The Mullingar Sewer Improvement Scheme was initiated to deliver a first class wastewater treatment system for the town of Mullingar in the Irish midlands. Mullingar had a number of CSOs which were decommissioned during the project, along with upgrading the wastewater treatment plant from 25,000 P.E. to 50,000 P.E. and providing nearly 7000 m3 storm storage. The main 6000m3 storm tank was formed by a secant pile wall formed with 1200mm interlocking piles, a weaker mix and no reinforcement used for the female piles.
Three sections of the Interceptor Sewer were tunnelled using slurry TBMs - an 1800mm section using an Iseki soft ground TBM and 1800 and 1200mm sections using Herrenknecht AVN machines with mixed ground heads.
